Root Canal Aftercare
A filling has been placed in your root canal tooth. The tooth and surrounding gum tissues may be tender for a few days.

Have a soft diet the remainder of the day.
Rinse the tooth with warm water as hot as you can tolerate for five minutes every hour to help reduce tenderness.
Take prescribed medication as directed.
Rest the tooth for 24 hours. Then gradually return to normal chewing and use.
Do not clench, grit, grind, or rest your teeth together.
If your tooth feels “high”, please call us to have your bite adjusted. It is important that the teeth meet together correctly. A “high” tooth can cause it to be very sensitive and could cause the filling or temporary crown to break.
A clean mouth heals faster. However, it is important to be gentle for 24 to 48 hours in the area of the root canal since the tissue is irritated.
Take 3-4 Advil, Nuprin or Ibuprofen every 6 hours for at least 48 hours. (DO NOT TAKE ON AN EMPTY STOMACH)
Most root canal teeth require a crown or other permanent restoration because the tooth is weak and could fracture.
